RUSI concludes that layered counter-UAS capability has become "not a luxury but a basic requirement" for any force operating on the modern battlefield. No single means is a universal solution — only combinations of sensors and effectors, integrated at every echelon, work.
For the Qatar World Cup (2022), a layered system was set up: radar/RF detection, a net-capture interceptor that actively takes down hostile drones, no-drone zones around stadiums, and fighter jets patrolling the airspace. This proves that the technology, funding and political will to layer drone detection and defeat already exist.
So the question is rarely "can this be done?" but "where is it and isn't it applied?" — see Chapter 7 for application to the flying platform itself.
