Following repeated drone sightings over European aviation and defence infrastructure (see Chapter 5.1), several European initiatives have started for a layered network of detection, electronic warfare and interceptors at national and allied level.
Important distinction
This type of initiative protects airspace and territory — it is not a replacement for the platform protection covered in Chapter 7. An aircraft flying outside the covered area, or vulnerable during take-off/landing, does not directly benefit from it.
